Nickel is a non-ferrous metal, recognizable by its silvery-white color and natural luster, which becomes even more pronounced after polishing. Due to its ductility and malleability, it is well-suited for processes such as rolling and drawing. Another key property is its high resistance to oxidation and corrosion, while it remains relatively unreactive to acids.

Use of pure nickel in Damascus steel:
Pure nickel is highly valued in the production of Damascus steel, where it is combined with other metals. After etching, it reveals very bright areas that create sharp contrasts and visually striking patterns.

Limitations of pure nickel:
Although not classified as toxic, prolonged skin contact may cause allergic reactions or skin irritation.
Furthermore, due to its relatively low hardness, it is not suitable for use as a cutting edge. Instead, it is employed as a decorative layer or as part of a composite structure—for example, laminated to a hardened, cutting-capable core.
