Aisi 416 stainless steel is used for shafts, axles, gears, screws, bolts and any part that requires considerable machining. Must not be used for high pressure vessels. It is a machining free martensitic grade which can be tempered by heat treatment to increase strength and hardness. The alloy shows better machinability than austenitic grades, but sacrifices corrosion resistance.
