440c, is a high carbon martensitic stainless steel, designed to offer a combination of high wear resistance and moderate corrosion resistance in medium environments. It reaches a hardness close to 60 HRC and offers good retention, easy to polish and re-sharpen, good thread tightness.

Heat treatment Annealing
Complete annealing - 840-870° C, slow furnace cool to about 600º C and then cool to air. Sub-critical annealing - 735-760º C and slow furnace .
Hardening at 1050° C
Air hardening between aluminum plates.
