Water Based Protective Lacquer against Oxidation and Scaling suitable up to approx. 1.200°C
Properties
CONDURSAL Z1500 provides good protection against scaling, especially during forging and forming.
It is suitable for tool steels, nitriding steels, quenched and tempered steels, rolling bearing steels and case-hardening steels.
CONDURSAL Z1500 has a low odour and reduces the formation of scale by up to 90% depending on the treatment temperatures and number of process steps.
Application
The surfaces of the workpieces to be protected must be clean, dry and free of oil, rust and grease, which can be achieved by washing, solvent degreasing or mechanical removal.
Before use, CONDURSAL Z1500 must be stirred well. It can be applied by brushing, spraying, dipping or rolling.
For CONDURSAL Z1500 to be effective, it is sufficient to apply a layer thickness of < 10-15 pm.
The drying time is normally approx. 45 minutes per coat.
Too thick or uneven application will cause the protective layer to crack and reduce its effectiveness.
For annealing times longer than 30 minutes, it is recommended to apply two coats to improve scale protection.
Removal of residues
The residues of CONDURSAL Z1500 flake off after treatment temperatures up to 850°C; at higher annealing temperatures, they can subsequently be removed by brushing or blasting.
Opened containers of CONDURSAL Z1500 should be hermetically sealed after use. Water can be used to clean the brushes.
Special advice
CONDURSAL Z1500 is not suitable for annealing temperatures below 600°C; at lower temperatures it behaves like a stoving enamel and then forms a black coating on the workpiece surfaces which is difficult to remove.
CONDURSAL Z1500 is water-based and must therefore be protected from frost.
